#000000

Digital collage topped with handmade image transfers using acetone

What began as a brief exploration of material and method during BHM, developed into a full-on patent study. I had obtained an extensive list of patents and inventions by African American artists. I started to look them up and couldn't find quite a few of them. Some of the numbers were being used for other inventions while others were missing in totality. This is what inspired the idea of overlaying the materials and disregarding the legibility. "Background-color" is a commonly used CSS code. The code #000000 is the hex color code for black. The acetone transfer was added after printing to highlight the fact that the patents were registered to blacks but in a way that voids the composition because of the code.
